Letter to the editor: Harris will help middle class
Last month in Pittsburgh, Vice President Kamala Harris detailed her economic philosophy to help the middle class. Raised by a working mom in a middle-class home, she will build an opportunity economy by:
• Giving more than 100 million Americans a tax break with a middle-class tax cut.
• Making housing more affordable by building 3 million new homes, including a new home builder tax credit, and helping more Americans experience the pride of homeownership by providing up to $25,000 for a down payment on a first home.
• Expanding the startup expense tax deduction from $5,000 to $50,000 for new businesses.
It’s a stark contrast to Trump’s record and future plans. Offshoring of jobs rose and nearly 200,000 manufacturing jobs were lost during his presidency.
I believe his plans for a second term are even worse and are based on Project 2025, despite his attempts to distance himself from it. Economists say the Project 2025 agenda would trigger a recession by mid-2025, cost the U.S. more than 3 million jobs, raise costs for typical middle-class families by nearly $4,000 per year, cost as much as $10 trillion over a decade, send inflation skyrocketing and hurt everyone but the richest Americans like Trump.
The choice in this election is clear: Kamala Harris.
