Letter to the editor: Grateful for librarians
Some feel brick-and-mortar libraries are no longer necessary with all the internet has to offer. But libraries provide much more than what can be found online.
The internet doesn’t provide the same assistance as a knowledgeable librarian when it comes to identifying legitimate, quality sources for a school project or selecting appropriate materials for personal enrichment. It also cannot replace the social benefit of in-person programs, which libraries offer for all ages.
Less obvious is the fact that the library may serve as the welcoming center of a town. Librarians are often among the first contacts for newcomers. They help people find resources in the community with more insight than a list on a phone and give people their first impression of their new area. They do it with graciousness and friendliness that is second to none.
I will always be grateful to the Norwin Library staff for all they did to make me and my family feel welcome when we moved here and am happy to support the library with my tax dollars. It’s money well spent.
