Letter to the editor: Government failing our children

Tribune-Review
| Saturday, November 23, 2019 10:00 a.m.

Our poor children. Parents always want the best for their children. For most parents it is their main purpose in life, to raise healthy, happy, honorable children. They want them to be able to live in a safe, prospering and honorable country. They know it is important their children get a good education, and most parents trust the public schools to provide this education. Their tax dollars fund these schools. Every day we hear children are graduating from high school who can barely read and write.

They also trust their government to protect our country from illegal drugs, addictive drugs that kill people, especially young people. Tax dollars fund many large government-enforcement agencies to provide this protection, yet these drugs continue to come into our country.

Our government is trusted to use our tax dollars responsibly, not to waste them and allow the national debt to become so astronomically large it becomes a monetary catastrophe. Sooner or later our children will have to pay this debt.

But, sad to say, our government has failed to meet these responsibilities and has dishonored our trust. Schools have failed, drugs have poured into our country and the debt increases by billions every week. We have failed our children, leaving them dumb, drugged and in debt.

Next November vote for the candidates who have demonstrated they might possibly be aware of these government failings and will work to correct them. We have to start somewhere to save the next generation.
