Letter to the editor: Government a virtue, not a burden

Could these words possibly hold any more weight than they do today?

It seems some have forgotten that government is meant to be a virtue, a symbol of the free, democratic process. Instead, it has been portrayed as a burden.

Who are we to feel entitled? Proud Americans across all generations have made an abundance of sacrifices. We are simply making ours.

Surely, this does not apply to everyone. Many still willingly take the brunt of the blow in the name of all that is good and just. These are the people we should cherish amongst our ranks. A true leader earns the respect of his men by the pain he endures for their sake.

Do not be fooled. We, the everyday working men and women, are the leaders of our country. It is through our efforts that the nation excels. The representation of America does not belong to the elitists or mega-rich.

Although counterintuitive, I wholeheartedly believe discipline and sacrifice breed freedom. I welcome any extra weight handed down by my beloved country. I believe that many great patriots do. It is times like now when righteousness exalts and wickedness crumbles. Together, we can accomplish all things.
