Letter to the editor: Goodness prevails with home health care workers

Sometimes in the midst of tragedy, goodness prevails and good people respond to the needs of others most in need.

All across Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and the United States, home care workers, staff, nurses and owners of home health care agencies have embraced this concept during the coronavirus pandemic. The home care and nursing workers on the front line courageously utilize protective gear while attending to the daily needs and activities of senior adults and people with disabilities where home care is life-sustaining.

India Christian always embraced the need to do the right thing when she served as a home care worker during the first days of Christian Home Health Care over 17 years ago. Now her staff has adopted this concept by also providing food for consumers in need as well as workers who need a helping hand during this pandemic.

To quote our late Pittsburgh neighbor Fred Rogers: “When I was a boy I would see scary things in the news. My mother would say to me to look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.”

As a Presbyterian minister, Rogers no doubt took comfort in John 13:34-25: “To love one another as I have loved you.”
