Letter to the editor: GI Bill available for those who earn assistance
A recent edition of the Trib had a piece that said the president is considering some form of debt forgiveness. All this will do is add to inflation and increases in college tuition.
The government already has a program that pays for college and trade school tuition. I and millions of other veterans used it. It is called the GI Bill. You serve your country, get honorably discharged and you earn tuition assistance. There is no free ride.
I can support a change to the GI Bill that would assist those who have completed a degree. The individual can earn, say, $20,000 for each year served. There would be no cap on the individual’s earnings as discussed in the article. This will also help the military meet its enlistment goals.
I am a retiree on a fixed income, and I say we cannot continue this policy of spend, spend and more spending. Anything that adds to record inflation is not supported by this Democrat.
