Letter to the editor: Freedom, passports and guns

Tribune-Review

Regarding the letter “Expanding, not restricting, our freedoms” (May 4, TribLIVE): I’ll put these “facts” to bed, in order. Vaccine passports? Guess what — I already have the freedom to go into a restaurant or stadium without a passport. If one is required, that is not freedom, that’s privilege.

The election is not a popularity contest, thank God, because not every decision you make in life is the popular one. If you always give in to the masses, you get what you get. And that is the coward’s way out.

I spent 23 years serving this country, and I know that not one gun available legally is “military ” style. And since you want to quote my letter, you completely missed my point. The point is if you want to give the number of “mass shootings” compared to the number of legal guns bought last year, you’re fooling nobody but yourself. So please, be honest. Take all those mass shootings that occur every weekend in places like Chicago, Baltimore, etc., and answer this question for me. Of all the mass shootings, how many were committed by a law-abiding citizen with a legally purchased weapon?

I’m sorry if my opinions offend any of the easily offended, but they are based in facts. And I spent my life fighting for everybody’s freedoms, and that surely includes my own.
