Regarding the letter “Sheriff’s divisive letter tarnishes office” (Dec. 20, TribLive), about Sheriff James Albert’s opinion on women getting guns for their safety: Albert is a citizen of Westmoreland County and the USA and is entitled to his opinion, just as other public office-holders have written letters to the Trib. We do have freedom of speech in the USA.

If women want to buy guns and carry, why not? I can see why women watching the news these days would want to get a gun. It takes time for police to get to their homes. Women need to pass a gun check and get a permit just like everyone else, and like men, they also should get gun training for their safety and others’. Gun owners must be able to use it when they need it, and if they can’t, then they shouldn’t get a gun.

If we let criminals out with no consequences for their crimes, more crimes will be committed. So what are women to do?
