Letter to the editor: Freedom Congress scores wins for American people

Tribune-Review

Hopefully the media is informing the public on what the House Freedom Caucus won in their recent pursuit to restore procedural order to Congress. Regarding the handling of bills, the Freedom Caucus secured policy for single subject bills to be debated, amended and voted on individually with a proper 72 hour review period prior to vote. Just these rules alone will slow indiscriminate, unbridled spending by the federal government. Also included are commitments to a two-year spending cap and a balanced budget in 10 years.

In addition to the procedural reforms, they requested committee chair selections be open to more members of the Republican Party. They have demanded a House vote on term limits. A Texas Border Plan was included to complete the border wall and strengthen border enforcement as well as the establishment of a judiciary subcommittee for investigating poorly understood actions taken by our national security agencies.

A return to proper procedure is required for the American people to influence their laws and distribution of their taxes. The government’s role is to protect, serve and defend the American way of life, not to rule over the lives of the people it represents.
