Letter to the editor: Free up brain space — don't sweat the small stuff
Trump, Biden, Ukraine, China, crime, riots, natural disasters, political and scientific hoaxes, voter fraud, inflation, fake news, deep fakes, far left, far right — it’s so much to worry about, and with limited brain space, it’s tough for anyone to take it all in.
To avoid a brain explosion, I decided to come up with a few things to drop from my list of daily worries. I figured this would leave more room for all the “big” stuff. I identified things that seem to no longer have much relevance, will never happen or appear to be inevitable, regardless of my level of concern. So (paraphrasing Alfred E.Newman), why worry?
My experiences and observations show I no longer need to be concerned about trivial things such as updated inspection and emission stickers, legible license plates, parking against traffic, and even using turn signals. In addition, elimination of property taxes, truth in advertising, dropping math and science scores and merit-based hiring are no longer concerns. I relaxed my mind further and removed my concerns about drug side effects, intelligent debates, lower IQ scores, lowered life expectancy, the Pirates, term limits and even paving the Tarentum Bridge. Gone! No longer a thought. They’re all dead to me. That cleared up about 50% of the old mental hard drive.
This is just a partial list, so feel free to add. Now where was I? Trump, Biden, Ukraine, Trump, Biden, Ukraine … Ahhhhhh!
