Letter to the editor: Franklin-Regional must meet needs of all students

Franklin Regional’s auditor confirmed its bond financing limit is $122 million, minus the current $22.5 million bond obligation.

Franklin Regional’s architect estimated maintenance costs on existing facilities for the next five to 10 years to be between $74 million and $98 million (as of April 11, 2017). With only $100 million financing available, how will maintenance ($74 million to $98 million), the additional Sloan campus costs ($35 million-plus) and renovations to the middle school and high school be funded? Those numbers suggest a funding shortfall of more than $10 million, and no plan for middle school or high school renovations.

All students need improved classrooms for modern instruction methods, notably those nearest graduation. Where is the planning for middle school and high school academic and program facility renovations?

How do we best meet the facility needs of all Franklin Regional students?

Vote to restructure the Franklin Regional School Board to re-prioritize academic and facilities objectives for all students.
