Letter to the editor: Fox News not fair, balanced

More hilarious than the comics section of the Trib are the occasional letters that extol Fox News as the “other side” of current political discourse.

The failure of so many to recognize the network’s dishonesty has led to their conviction that to get the “truth” out of any political controversy, they have to go outside ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, MSNBC — the “fake news” mainstream outlets.

As a news junkie, I watch them all and can praise Fox for one thing: its decision to drop the laughable slogan “Fair and Balanced.” One has to be a masochist to regularly watch Fox’s three-hour prime-time agenda of Tucker Carlson, Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham. Hannity, especially, displays his Trump sycophancy and serves as a willing “roadie” at Trump rallies.

From its inception in 1996, billionaire Rupert Murdoch and accused sexual harasser Roger Ailes began Fox News as a political tool by which they could control the Republican party. Fox News has always been a propaganda outlet masquerading as a legitimate news source. But, truth be told, it has been crucial in shaping our politics. Conservative political commentator David Frum observed: “Republicans originally thought that Fox worked for us; now we’re discovering that we work for Fox.”

I applaud the Democratic National Committee for rejecting Fox News as a sponsor for any primary debates for the Democratic presidential candidates. It knows Fox is incapable of hosting a fair and neutral debate.
