Letter to the editor: Foreign languages useful to students

Outstanding article about French classes returning to Penn-Trafford (“No ‘au revoir’ just yet: Penn-Trafford to keep French program, for now,” April 23, TribLIVE), c’est bon! And good job including the chart about which languages are taught at other are schools. Very sad to see Latin posted only once. Medical terminology, biology terms, heck, the entire basis for our language is based on Latin.

French is obviously spoken in numerous countries, such as Canada and Haiti, and can be most useful. Want a career in aviation? Many airlines fly Airbus aircraft, which are manufactured in Toulouse, France. You may end up having to go there one day. And what about German? Very important if you work in Western Pennsylvania, as there are over 70 German-owned or affiliated firms in our area. Perhaps you can do an article about that?

So please, parents, encourage you children to learn a second language. You never know when it may come in handy.

Ciao!
