The recent attacks on the U.S. Postal Service are an insult to anyone who has worked for this dedicated group of Americans.
After my dad came home from World War II, he got a job as a letter carrier and spent almost 40 years doing a job he loved. He walked his route in all kinds of weather, bringing everything from birthday cards to bills and vacation postcards. He loved talking to everyone on his route. He died in his 90s and would be angry to see what is going on.
When I was in college, I worked one Christmas unloading 60-foot-long mail trucks. The men on the night shift had been doing this job for years. The trucks would arrive filled with canvas mailbags. We would spend hours unloading a truck and got a break when it was empty. Every part of your body was sore. You wore out at least three pairs of working gloves in one shift. The break lasted a half-hour until the next truck arrived. The routine continued for eight hours. I admired these guys. I don’t know how they did this night after night for years.
The U.S. Postal Service has been a key part of our democracy since it began. It was the way Americans kept in touch.
These postal workers won’t let our country down. Trust them. I know from my experience.
Don’t listen to the lies. Join their fight before it’s too late.
