Letter to the editor: Federal system has gone astray

Tribune-Review

Under our federal system, legislation is enacted to ensure equal justice, provide for our national security, act as a safeguard of our rights and freedoms, promote and regulate commerce, ensure general economic benefit, and enumerate and restrict in many ways government power. Our federal laws should always be just, good and such that the people are secure and protected and their liberty maintained.

First and foremost, the U.S. Constitution must be followed and laws must be “of, by and for” the people. As of late our federal system has gone astray. Our system has morphed from “of, by and for” the people to “of, by and for” the political party. It seems that vote-buying and money-laundering scams, shakedowns, crony capitalism, and padding of the federal bureaucracy are woven into every law.

The system to protect and benefit the people now protects the political party and the government class. This focus shifts power from the people to the political parties. And with this power shift, corruption is inevitable. It is why nothing of value ever really gets done by the Washington bureaucracy.
