Letter to the editor: Facts on constitutional amendments

I’d like to offer letter-writer Sandy Kremer some factual corrections (“Stop legislators’ power grab,” July 29, TribLIVE).

She claims constitutional amendments are done to “circumvent the bill-writing and vetting processes.” In truth, these measures must be approved in two consecutive sessions of the General Assembly.

She claims that for a “yes” vote, they “word the amendments accordingly.” In fact, the phrasing of those ballot questions is decided by the Wolf administration’s Department of State.

After all this, she says the “resulting laws can be extremely radical (and) not represent the will of the people.” I suppose one may feel that way when they are so incredibly underinformed on a simple subject.

She also states that our General Assembly is one of the largest and most expensive in the county. On that point, at least, she is correct.
