Letter to the editor: Easy to understand Trump's defeat

Tribune-Review

After four years of experiencing the President Trump brand, American voters defeated him at the ballot box.

Instead of building bridges to unite Americans, he built walls between families and friends. The other wall he promised never materialized.

Americans were lied to, a lot, “believe me.” We were fed ludicrous and misleading alternative facts. Respected news outlets were denigrated and called fake news.

The self-proclaimed law and order president did not promote peace, stability or respect for rules and norms. We witnessed criminal counts against eight Trump associates and threats made to public officials following “lock her up” chants and disparaging comments

He said he’d “drain the swamp,” then chose Cabinet members mired in special interests. His kids influenced policy while continuing to run Trump family businesses.

His “America First” policy has weakened national security.

The 2016 rigged election rhetoric continues. Trump lost the popular vote. Twice. Biden won the 2020 popular and Electoral College votes. Yet Trump alleges otherwise with that contentious “stop the steal” chant.

Trump said the coronavirus pandemic “would go away on Nov. 4,” instigating the label “hoax.” Meanwhile, hospitals, individuals and communities face potential calamity as the public health crisis worsens. Trump appears unconcerned. Unemployment and food insecurity are reality for many.

Instead of “making America great again,” Trump fractured it after he said, “I alone can fix it.” After all this “winning” at this deceitful game, voters rejected his brand, didn’t buy what he’s been selling and cannot trust him with another four years.

Trump’s loss is not so hard to understand.
