Letter to the editor: Dismayed in Monroeville

Tribune-Review

I watched the latest Monroeville council meeting with extreme dismay (“Monroeville decides against employee furlough,” April 16, TribLIVE). Greg Erosenko, as deputy mayor, is in a leadership position to act for the citizens of Monroeville. The vote on whether to lay off employees, in my opinion, was critical to the future of his political career and that of Ron Harvey, Ward 3 representative.

I knew Harvey would vote against laying off code enforcement employees; his son-in-law works in the department. He should have abstained from voting.

I believe he put his family before the citizens of Monroeville. How is Harvey supporting the citizens who voted him in office to represent them? Some of his actions have led me to believe he could care less about the homeowners and businesses in Monroeville.

I will remind Monroeville citizens about Erosenko’s and Harvey’s disrespect for them. Many lost their jobs, and money is tight. In my opinion, these two and some of the other council members can only raise taxes to keep the municipal workforce working — but what about the citizens and business?

I have for the past year been spending my money in Westmoreland County where I save 1% on my major purchases. I do not provide any revenues to the municipality of Monroeville except for taxes, and this will continue as long as I feel the current council could care less about the citizens they represent.

The one item Erosenko and Harvey have overlooked is they lost my respect and, more importantly, my vote.
