Letter to the editor: Differing views of Jan. 6

Tribune-Review

I have read many fervent commentaries concerning the infamous Jan. 6 events. The notion that it was an insurrection with the intent to overthrow the U.S. government is laughable. The small percentage of people in attendance who committed violence or entered the Capitol building should absolutely be held accountable.

The DOJ and FBI have since left no stone unturned tracking down and filing criminal charges, including for just being on Capitol grounds without ever entering. To date, over 700 have been charged, and Attorney General Merrick Garland has publicly stated that many more indictments are forthcoming, including against individuals not even in D.C. that day.

The initial reports by the mainstream media that Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick was murdered were proved false when the D.C. medical examiner cited the death as “natural” caused by several strokes. Some of those charged have had their civil liberties trampled on, but no one will be held accountable for these communist-like actions.

The message being sent is clear: Stand against the left at your own peril.

The Jan. 6 Select Committee is yet another kangaroo court commissioned by Democrats who are desperate to keep the drama alive as a way to distract from their failed policies and the abysmal performance of the Biden-Harris administration, which are the true assaults on our democracy.

And, when you read these morally righteous op-ed pieces, ask yourself what these same pundits said about the George Floyd riots that ended in the death of at least two dozen and injury to thousands of innocent people.
