Letter to the editor: Different coverage for Trump
Wow, a multipage article on using Sen. John Fetterman’s comment out of context (“’Cheap fake’ video clip posted online misstates Fetterman’s pick to win Pennsylvania,” Aug. 8, TribLive)! President Biden, Vice President Harris and many Democrats continually take President Trump’s comments out of context. I don’t remember seeing anything in the Trib about those.
One often repeated is Trump said if he isn’t elected, “there will be a blood bath in the country.” Trump’s comment was in a speech on Biden’s economic policies. Trump said, “… there is going to be an economic bloodbath for the auto industry with Joe Biden’s policies.”
Biden and Harris say Trump called neo-Nazis and the Proud Boys “fine people,” didn’t denounce them and/or supported them. These comments are based on Trump’s response to a reporter asking about “putting the alt-left and white supremacists on the same moral plane.” Trump responded: “… and you had some very bad people in that group, but you also had people that were very fine people, on both sides.” After several exchanges Trump said, “You’re changing history. You’re changing culture (referring to taking down statues). And you had people — and I’m not talking about the neo-Nazis and the white nationalists — because they should be condemned totally. But you had many people in that group other than neo-Nazis and white nationalists.”
Most politicians take an opponent’s comments out of context and use them to their advantage. The Trib used to print out of context comments, misquotes and misleading information for all parties and candidates. I don’t see that happening today.
