Letter to the editor: Democrats not for working people

Tribune-Review

I was a union worker for 38 years. I was told I must vote Democrat in every election. Maybe in the past the Democratic Party was for the working person. No more.

I started paying attention to the way things were going — using my brain instead of being one of the flock. In 2014 President Obama signed a law that included a provision allowing companies that could show financial problems with their pension funds to cut retirees’ pensions almost 70%. Iron workers in Ohio were the first to be affected by this and fought it. Most of the media never followed up, so we don’t know the outcome.

Now we have Democrats running for president who I think feel that a person who never worked and does not want to work should have the same finances as me. I was brought up that if you want something, work for it. The new symbol of the Democratic Party should be a person sitting in a chair with his hand out (too lazy to stand).

Why has the Democratic Party become a party of hate? No longer can you have calm discussions. Republican politicians can no longer live normal lives. One was shot while practicing for a congressional charity baseball game. Some have been told to leave restaurants, that they would not be served. Harassed while trying to live a normal life. Do you see Republicans acting this way?

I will vote for President Trump. I saw enough violence in Vietnam. Make America great again. No more hate.
