Letter to the editor: Democrats' history of election hijinks
When one dives into researching presidential election chicanery, one quickly concludes that the Democrats are in a league by themselves. In 1864, President Abraham Lincoln was running against Democrat George McClellan. An elaborate scheme was put in place to steal the mail-in votes of New York Union soldiers who were voting for Lincoln. Fortunately, they were caught red-handed before any damage was done.
The first time “Landslide Lyndon” Johnson ran for U.S. Senate, he lost by 1,311 votes. When he ran again in 1948, in the Democratic primary, he appeared to be losing on election night. Then days later, mysteriously a box of uncounted ballots was “discovered,” and LBJ won by 87 votes. Many of the ballots were from deceased people buried in the local cemeteries and were signed in the same blue ink with the same handwriting.
In 1960 JFK won Texas after 100,000 Kennedy votes magically appeared in future Vice President/President LBJ’s state. JFK won the state of Illinois when Chicago Mayor Richard “Boss” Daley stepped in using the “Democratic machine” and “Chicago rules” to help voters pick the right candidate.
It should be noted that when Barack Obama ran for an Illinois state Senate seat in 1996, he employed Chicago rules to invalidate the voting petition signatures of three of his Democratic challengers.
