Letter to the editor: Deluzio will fight for 'made in America'
According to the article “Chip shortage leaves 95K GM vehicles incomplete in storage” (July 1, TribLIVE), “The global shortage of computer chips forced General Motors to build 95,000 vehicles without certain components during the second quarter (of 2022).” The article notes that the shortage of chips has forced many automakers to shut down or reduce production at factories throughout our nation.
It is no surprise. The shortage of chips is a symptom of a larger problem created by American public policy, which has ignored our need to make things here.
One candidate for Congress has called on our federal government to take steps to ensure that we make things here in America.
Chris Deluzio will push our federal government to demand that when American taxpayers invest in research and development, those companies must use it to produce things here and to increase our investment in apprenticeship programs to better produce the skills that are needed in the modern workforce.
Deluzio will support American industries that invest in new technology instead of simply buying back their own stock or boosting executive compensation and care about the places they are located and the people who live there.
American people have lost faith in our democracy. Chris Deluzio knows that we must act to restore that faith.
