Letter to the editor: Decades of hate caused DC chaos
Jan. 6 started decades ago when you were told if you pay taxes, vote GOP. Then came the airwaves of hate speech from Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and others, who told you the poor, minorities and immigrants were the cause of your problems.
Then came the church with promises of a Christian nation and overturning Roe v. Wade, God, guns, GOP. Then it was veterans, the flag and patriotism of America, and only the GOP could provide all that for you. Then only the GOP supported the police.
Then, wow, the Trump House! Free shirts and hats and flags and signs so you could recognize each other. We tried to tell you the far right, Proud Boys, QAnon and others were overtaking the party, but you just called us socialists and other names.
Then came the lies of a fixed election, even though many states counted votes numerous times. President Trump and his minions told you how you were robbed; it was fixed and stolen from you. Come to Washington and take it back.
So look in the mirror if you are in shock and asking how did this happen. Words, choices, lies and hate created what happened at the Capitol.
My deepest sympathy to the family of the Capitol police officer and others who died as a result of the day’s events, including those who believed they were wronged with lies and hate.
God bless America from a Christian veteran and working Democrat American who joined 81 million other Americans and said enough is enough.
