Letter to the editor: Criminalization of our words
We live in time in which speech is being criminalized. How do you get the best of ourselves without a prolific use of free speech? Being told what to think by virtue of what words we use and in contradiction to objective truth should shake you to your core.
Articulating your disagreement is not hate, but it is a critical part of a healthy society. Feelings are not the threshold for facts. You will hurt someone’s feelings. It could be that someone is not thinking correctly when you take into consideration the facts. Individual thought is key to come to the logical and crucial conclusion and not harming our society by restricting those thoughts.
Ultimately, we are more likely to be corrupted by ideas and thoughts that are morally problematic unless we can have a conversation about it. Propaganda is what we get today that’s trying to crush our society, and we’re expected to shut up and accept it.
