Letter to the editor: Court restoring our freedoms

Letter-writer Katie Forsythe (“Partisan Supreme Court is restricting our freedoms,” July 6, TribLIVE) states that the Supreme Court’s recent decisions “undermine our freedoms” and that “this radical court seems determined to destroy our democracy.” I want to know how the court undermines our freedoms when it is returning a matter, on which the Constitution is silent, to the people and their elected representatives. If that isn’t democracy, I don’t know what is.

Sixty-three million babies have been killed since Roe v. Wade. We’ll never know how many babies could have been another Beethoven, Michelangelo, Mozart, Martin Luther King, etc.

Science tells us that a fetus is a biological human being with his/her own DNA. Abortion, therefore, intentionally kills an innocent human being. The unborn are people with a right to life. You and I were once embryos. Just as it is wrong to kill us, it is wrong to kill a human being at an early stage of development.

So many pregnancy centers have been attacked and destroyed. They offer prenatal testing, ultrasounds, counseling to women who choose to keep their babies and to women up until the baby is 3 years old, sometimes 5. Many women who want to abort their babies are filled with fear. Pregnancy centers empower women to transpose their fear into confidence. Destroying pregnancy centers is an attack on women who choose to keep their babies.

The majority of Americans do not favor abortions. That is why I am voting for a candidate who respects the life and dignity of the mother and her unborn child.
