Letter to the editor: Corporate minimum tax bad idea
The corporate minimum tax sounds good, but in actuality it’s not. Most public policy is funded through taxes and/or tax rebates to encourage behaviors. The corporate tax should have a maximum, not a minimum. We as consumers pay their tax through higher prices (inflation). The large corporations can afford to have extra employees to focus on the tax breaks, which lowers the rate of taxation. Favored treatment has existed because of lobbying, etc.
The electric car infrastructure, wind power, solar power, hydrogen power, etc., are all examples of incentive-driven tax policies. Historically, projects were funded by bonds and taxes. Now, they are funded through tax incentives.
Government spending has broken our country. The out-of-control bureaucrats and politicians have created our problems. Small businesses solve our problems and employ the bulk of Americans. We need to rein in our government, stop spending and taxing, and we will be fine.
