Letter to the editor: Coronavirus & abortion

Tribune-Review

The covid-19 epidemic is a serious problem and requires our best efforts to combat its effects. Hundreds of thousands, or maybe even millions, may die from this deadly virus worldwide this year. We know that the elderly and those with compromised immune systems are most at risk and our concern for them is legitimate.

I just wish that we could muster up more concern and compassion for the most vulnerable segment of our society, unborn children. According to Guttmacher Institute in 2017, 18% of all pregnancies excluding miscarriages resulted in an induced abortion. Pregnancy is not even a disease, and yet the death rate for children residing in the womb makes it worse than the worst “hot spots” in the world. More than 50 million children have died from abortion in the United States since 1973, and 40 million to 50 million unborn children worldwide are willfully terminated each year.

I applaud our efforts to save as many lives as we can from the deadly effects of this coronavirus. My heart aches for the loss of life that will be experienced before this epidemic passes. At the same time, it amazes me that an average of 125,000 unborn children worldwide will lose their life every day to abortion almost unnoticed.

Instead of investing our resources to save those lives, our culture is more concerned about “protecting reproductive rights” and has the audacity to call the method of ending an innocent life “health care.”

We live in confusing times.
