Letter to the editor: Consequences of transgender athletic competition
What is the future of high school female sports programs?
President Biden recently signed an executive order making it federal policy, and encouraging states to follow, to allow transgender females to participate in high school female sports. Far-left Democrats in Congress want to make it mandatory.
What are the consequences? How many high school girls basketball, volleyball, softball, lacrosse and track teams will be dominated by biological males? How many names of females in the record books will be erased in favor of biological males? How many skilled, hardworking, dedicated young female athletes will have to sit on the bench, displaced by a biological male?
Did you know that the female world record for the 100-meter dash is 10.49 seconds? Florence Griffith Joyner is considered the all-time fastest woman in the world, a remarkable achievement by a remarkable athlete. Did you know that there are more than 300 teenage male high school athletes who can beat 10.49 seconds? Again, what are the consequences of allowing biological males to participate in high school female sports?
The Tribune-Review is to be commended for its thorough, everyday coverage of area high school sports programs. Highlighting the schools, spotlighting the individual athletes, with action photos and insightful articles, is a community service very much appreciated by those of us who pick up the sports pages.
