Letter to the editor: Congress must invest in our communities

Too many families in Westmoreland County and communities across Pennsylvania were suffering before the pandemic. For too long, we have seen tax cuts for corporations while investments in our local communities are blocked.

As a longtime resident of West Newton, I see firsthand the need for investment in our community. Our roads, bridges and buildings are crumpling. I agree with President Biden: recovery demands bold and comprehensive solutions. We must build back better with good-paying union jobs, care for everyone who needs it and extend relief for kids and families.

The “Build Back Better” plan will make health insurance, child care, housing and college more affordable for families in Pennsylvania. It will address the growing climate concern and expand home and community care for the elderly and disabled. This historic investment in infrastructure will boost wages for workers and bring thousands of jobs to Pennsylvania.

In 2020, I voted for bold solutions to the urgent crises facing people in Pennsylvania. We are on the cusp of historic relief, care and investment for our communities that is desperately needed here in Westmoreland County and Pennsylvania. We just need Rep. Guy Reschenthaler and Congress to deliver for the 99% of us while making the 1% finally pay their fair share.
