Letter to the editor: Comparing Civil, Ukraine wars

Tribune-Review

The North defeated the South in the Civil War. The Civil War has parallels to the war between Ukraine and Russia.

The North had more factories, a standing army, a greater population and more raw materials to manufacture munitions. What it didn’t have was good generals.

The South lacked many things, but they were fervent in their belief of state rights. Also, they had better military leaders.

The North lost more soldiers than the South, but in the end it still won. The North could replace troops, but the South literally ran out of men.

Ukraine and much of the world is outraged that Russia attacked that country. Russia has more soldiers, more factories and a standing army. I do not understand the conflict. I don’t think it is as black and white as Ukraine portrays it.

The stalemate will go on as long as the rest of the world props up Ukraine. However, unless some country is stupid enough to send troops on the ground and start officially World War III, Ukraine will run out of troops. Then Russia will win. Did we learn nothing from the Vietnam War?
