Letter to the editor: Commissioners should work with residents on ARP funds

Tribune-Review

The American Rescue Plan is confirmed. It’s designed to bring major improvements through out our nation. With skilled management it ensures the power to resolve glaring disparities currently existing in Westmoreland County, and particularly to its at-risk communities.

For that to happen requires a closer relationship between our county commissioners, residents and civic organizations who represent families living on the edge of or below the poverty line. They’re families of all colors and ethnicities. Everyone’s impacted no matter the political polarity. We all voted for caring leadership believing they’d make a difference.

Financial help is here. But what are the current mitigating state and county financial management factors? What are the distribution priorities? Who does it go to? Who directs it? Who’s benefiting by it so far? Who’s keeping us apprised of it? Who’s expected to talk with us and more frequently with at-risk families? All amid coping with their housing, health, financial, safety and family struggles? We have a critical need to know!

Our commissioners have a rare opportunity to be recognized as historic leaders bringing generational changes to our county. The solution is “work with us.”
