Letter to the editor: Citizens' right to vote

Tribune-Review

Just a quick response to letter- writer Harold W. Beatty III (“Citizens, not ‘anybody,’ have right to vote,” April 10 TribLIVE). In a rebuttal to Leonard Pitts Jr.’s column “Republicans consider ballots more dangerous than bullets” (March 23, TribLIVE), Beatty replied that: “Our Constitution states that ‘citizens of the United States’ have the right to vote, not anybody living in the United States.”

Actually, the Constitution of the United States does not make any reference to the individual citizens’ “right to vote.” Nor does the Bill of Rights ratified on Jan. 10, 1791.
