Letter to the editor: Churchill's, Wilkinsburg's woes
When Sandy Fox (“Amazon warehouses are sacrifice zones,” Dec. 18, TribLIVE) wrote about the majority of these Amazon facilities happily roosting in neighborhoods that tend to be challenged because of their socio-economic makeup, it would have been an important fact to add that Churchill is located next to Wilkinsburg. It’s kind of a big omission, or, apparently, an oversight.
Wilkinsburg is embroiled in its own fight right now, as we know, with a group of council members working to keep the city prisoner. Churchill is trying not to lose its “worth,” and Wilkinsburg is being held hostage by council members who won’t let it work to decide its own fate and save itself (by joining the City of Pittsburgh or finding a new resolution).
Sadly, both are examples of the absolute harm of power to corrupt and diminish the integrity of our communities.
