Letter to the editor: Celebrating pregnancy
I was very glad to read Mona Charen’s opinion piece “In defense of pregnancy” (June 26, TribLIVE). It has been my joy and honor to nurture four of my children inside my body, as well as outside of my body. After several years and several children that my husband and I fostered, we were pleased to be able to adopt our fifth child.
Those of us who have been blessed by God with full and happy lives bringing children into the world and caring for them should be supporting others to do likewise. We as individuals, as churches and as communities need to encourage young women, even in crisis situations, to carry their children to term. We can help with reassuring words, financial help, baby supplies, babysitting, foster parenting and adopting. We can also support crisis pregnancy centers financially or by volunteering. These volunteers truly wrap their arms around the mother and child during and after the pregnancy.
Let us not consider pregnancy as a death sentence, but rather as a gift of life.
