Letter to the editor: Casinos shouldn't cater to smokers

Tribune-Review

Regarding the article “Pennsylvania casinos not ready to cut smoking from gambling experience” (Jan. 3, TribLIVE): I’m from Greensburg, and when I left, it was a smoking city. I’m a nonsmoker (actually no bad habits).

There are 24 states that outlaw smoking (an addictive habit) in their casinos. A lot have nonsmoking areas. I thinks it’s wrong to allow a smelly bad habit to ruin the pleasures of gambling for healthy people for the sake of a few addicted (to most things) smokers.

We stopped going to smoking establishments years ago. Even Europe has healthier standards. We got tired of smelling like an old ashtray for a few hours of fun. Also, even though smokers are addicted, they usually don’t spend as much as healthy people.

Maybe I’ve been in a healthy climate too long, but to cater to smokers is kinda stupid. Have a nonsmoking section; bet you get more customers.
