Letter to the editor: Buyer's remorse on Trump

I’m finally hearing from Trump supporters who express buyer’s remorse on their vote in 2016. Really!

Trump made his ideas clear in the pathetic preelection rally stops. Constant name calling of those who disagreed with him. Encouraged violence at rallies when he said about a protester, “Try not to hurt him. If you do, I’ll defend you in court.” Or recalled the “old days” when protesters “would be carried out on a stretcher.” These statements drew thunderous applause and still do today. How embarrassing.

Trump’s denials may be the most telling. He brags about knowing people when it’s beneficial, but disputes others even though videos and photos show the truth. Remember this: “What you’re seeing and what you’re reading is not happening.” Are we that stupid?

If Trump’s denials continue to be accepted, it means every future president is above the law. Not you, not me, just the president … this president.

Voters must go into the 2020 election wide-eyed. Trump’s removal will likely go no further.

There is only one way to get two parties to do what is right and uphold their constitutional duty, and that is term limits. It behooves politicians to do whatever it takes to stay in their very lucrative jobs. Some politicians gave up careers in teaching, social work, coaching and the seminary — positions not likely to create enormous wealth. To keep their high standard of living, they fall in with the party line or receive no money. They stepped away from their values for greed. The Senate hearings show a much-needed change.
