Letter to the editor: 'Build Back Better' bill best for all citizens

Tribune-Review

The proposed “Build Back Better” bill may be the most visionary piece of legislation in our lifetime. Issues addressed include:

• reestablishing workers protections through labor law and promoting labor unions

• adding dental, hearing and vision benefits through Medicare expansion

• free preschool and community college

• major investments in fighting climate change

• lower prices for prescription drugs

• creating a pathway for citizenship for millions of undocumented immigrants

• fair taxes that invest in America, and making permanent the child tax credit that has cut child poverty in half

Reagan and Trump did their best to dismantle the American dream by undermining unionized labor and by deregulating American corporations to the detriment of the American middle class. The pandemic is forcing a new paradigm that has the potential to usher in a society that offers a living wage, health care, affordable housing, clean air and water, and uncontaminated food sources to all, no matter their race or economic status.

We need to focus on making living conditions in the country affordable and the judicial system equitable for all. No one should be above the law, no matter their position, including presidents and congressional leaders.

Please contact your congressional leaders and demand their support.
