Letter to the editor: Biden's Ukraine irony

President Biden’s first State of the Union address was a meandering tale full of irony and misinformation complete with the typical theatrics common to all such addresses, and a few classy moments such as recognizing retiring Justice Stephen Breyer and the Ukrainian U.N. ambassador.

The irony started when Biden boasted about U.S. aid to Ukraine while at that time helping to fund Putin’s war machine by purchasing Russian oil. Biden has since changed course and banned Russian oil, which he also is conveniently using to falsely blame for the highest gasoline prices in U.S. history.

Also ironic is that Ukraine was denied access to NATO mainly due to its corruption.

More irony came when Biden talked about border security while the southern border is not secure and, I believe, controlled more by Mexican cartels than the U.S.

Concerning his “Build Back Better” programs, Biden repeated previous claims that no American making under $400,000 a year will pay “a penny more in taxes,” which has already been debunked by numerous sources. Other misinformation were claims that voting rights are under attack and the reason for high inflation.

The president could have used the SOTU address for at least a partial reset, but at this point in his life, Biden is just an out-of-touch, “tell the people what you think they want to hear” politician.
