Letter to the editor: Answers needed on bridge collapse
Funny how President Biden showed up in Pittsburgh the same day a major bridge collapses and promises that the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law would help fix this problem. If I remember right, back in 2009, under President Obama’s stimulus package, $48 billion was promised to help fix roads, bridges and other major infrastructure projects. So what happened? Things like this bridge collapse don’t happen overnight.
We were promised back in 2009 that things like this would have been looked at and fixed. Somebody screwed up here — so what the hell happened? At least no one was killed.
Remember the 58-cent gas tax that is supposed to help pay for road and bridge projects? The tax that drivers of electric cars don’t have to pay?
I think the people in Pittsburgh and the rest of us need answers on why this was missed. How many other bridges might have this same problem and have been missed, where our lives might be at stake?
Or do you think things like this might be planned for a reason?
