Letter to the editor: Answers needed before vote on Norwin library tax

The Norwin community this November faces a choice concerning the dedicated library tax. The library and the building that houses it are community assets that need to be maintained moving forward. Since a large amount of public tax dollars have been invested and continue to be used, it’s important that the public is represented on the library’s board of trustees either through direct election of board members or having them appointed by our elected officials in the Norwin area.

Consideration should also be given to how the instant availability of information through phones and personal computers impacts the library’s services moving forward and how the library intends to address this change to maximize its assets. The library’s website is a good source of information concerning the operation of the library; however, it doesn’t address how board members are chosen or if a five- to 10-year plan exists for the library as needs change.

Unfortunately, the only leverage I have to address these issues is through this referendum on the ballot. I find it difficult to vote to continue the tax until these issues are addressed.
