Letter to the editor: All our constitutional rights are sacred
As a veteran, I am sick and tired of the fake outrage concerning the Second Amendment when far right fascists rage all-out war against other constitutional rights, particularly the First and 14th Amendments.
Current book ban trends are for no other reason than that the material makes certain people “uncomfortable,” which seems to be behind the bans being proposed by the Hempfield Area School Board. Books written by the LGBTQ, Black and Latino communities are being challenged, often simply because certain individuals do not want to acknowledge these communities exist. The Bible has just as many passages of explicit sex and violence as the books being targeted.
As for the 14th Amendment, the Supreme Court’s decision to overthrow Roe v. Wade has placed women in the status of livestock and breeders by taking away their bodily autonomy and forcing them to procreate in all circumstances, no exceptions. They are essentially putting women at the mercy of men who have no idea of the intricacies of reproductive health and the complications that pregnancy can cause. There is supposed to be a separation of church and state. The state should not be legislating health issues best left to a woman and her doctor.
