Letter to the editor: Adulation for Trump puzzling
It perplexes me that people such as letter-writer Beverly Dawes (“Thank you, President Trump,” July 27, TribLIVE) can be so delusional as to adulate someone who I believe is the worst and most corrupt president in our history. Twenty- thousand verifiable lies to the American people and counting.
For brevity I will address just one of her points: that the virus would have been much worse but for Trump’s quick response. What response? He failed to prepare for what the scientists were predicting. He sidelined experts and promoted phony cures, including injecting poison. He predicted it will go away by a miracle. He mocked people who wore masks and said testing was overrated. He eliminated several government departments established by President Obama for dealing with pandemics, and disbanded the pandemic response team.
He gave massive tax cuts to himself and his rich buddies, leaving our coffers empty at a time when we need huge bailouts. He defunded the World Health Organization and continues to try to take health care from people — during a pandemic!
We have by far the most cases of any country. Many countries deny us entry. Other countries are past this, but here we are bouncing the hot spots from state to state, for lack of a nationally coordinated plan. “I take no responsibility,” he said. That was possibly the first truthful statement I’ve heard from him.
I believe Trump is a dangerous president, interested only in himself, not the country. Another four years and he will be a dictator, like Putin and Kim Jong, whom he professes to love.
