Letter to the editor: Abominable times in the US

Tribune-Review

I am a 76-year-old veteran who has lived through the times of 13 presidents (Truman doesn’t count, I was too young) and elected officials, and I have never seen a period in our country’s history that has been so abominable.

I voted for 11 of those presidents. Members of the House and senators and the vast majority of those running were interested in caring for the American people, but today it seems they care only about their own power, prestige and desires.

You ask how can I make that assumption? Just look at what is happening in our country: illegal immigrants, rampant crime, ridiculous concepts being taught to our children, leaders who want to turn our nation into a socialist state, out-of-control inflation — it goes on and on, and our leadership does nothing about it.

I always tried to vote for whom I thought would be the best person for the job, whether Democrat, Republican or independent. But today our leaders are so set on wanting control of the government that they have pitted Democrat against Republican, liberal against conservative.

I rarely talked about politics, but now I am actually afraid to talk about politics because of what the government might do to me. Whatever happened to freedom of speech?

Now is the time to stop this. In the November election, don’t vote party lines. Do diligent research on the candidates and vote for the best person who will support the American way of life. Only then will we start to get representatives who care about the American people.
