Letter to the editor: A plan for election integrity
A plan exists to solve the problems of election integrity.
Voters want security. They want themselves in charge of election security. Give each voter the means to audit their own vote as verified and counted. Each voter will vote on a paper ballot that will have an ID number on it. They will “copy” their ballot through a scanner located on the surface of a single stand-alone machine, no modem, no connection to the internet. Two screen shots, original and copy. Matched and verified will appear on screen with voter ID number. At end of day the adding machine processor will print out the total votes for each candidate on that machine in that precinct.
The machine will post on the screen the totals received by each candidate for that voting day, and those totals must match the print-out summary of all votes counted; ID numbers are posted by the precincts in sequential order but not reported with vote count. Total votes are added and submitted as a grand total for all candidates, results of all machines, the total votes in the precinct.
Precinct counts can be shown on TV the evening of the election.
