Letter to the editor: A deeper look into the Bible for guidance on abortion
In reference to David Ninehouser’s letter “Jesus never preached about abortion” (May 20, TribLIVE) that “Jesus speaks not a single, solitary word about abortion”: I am guessing Ninehouser is concluding that Jesus then condones it. This is misleading logic. Just because I don’t specifically say, “Don’t kick my dog,” doesn’t mean I’m OK with you kicking my dog.
The commandment simply says “thou shalt not kill.” It doesn’t have to specify every method.
And here are some Bible verses regarding “life” in the womb:
Jeremiah 1:5: “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, And before you were born I consecrated you.”
Luke 1:43-44: “And how has it happened to me, that the mother of my Lord would come to me? For behold, when the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby leaped in my womb for joy.”
Isaiah 44:2: “Thus says the Lord who made you and formed you from the womb, who will help you.”
Believe what you want to believe, but don’t be swayed by biased interpretations to try to justify your beliefs.
