Pope Francis tells hairdressers to stop gossiping
Thou shalt not gossip.
It probably was in the set of Commandments that Moses didn’t bring down with him.
OK, maybe that’s not true. But what is true is that on Monday, Pope Francis warned 230 Italian Catholic hairdresses, stylists and beauticians to “avoid falling into the temptation of gossip that is easily associated with your work.”
Reuters reports the group was on a pilgrimage to Rome and met with the pope.
Francis said they should go about their jobs “with Christian style, treating clients with gentleness and courtesy, offering them always a good word and encouragement.”
The patron saint of barbers and beauticians is Saint Martin de Porres, a 16th-century barber-surgeon who spend a good deal of his life working with the sick and poor.
Traditionally, Italian barbers and beauty parlors are closed on Mondays, which is why the group chose that day to visit the Vatican.
