Mother, son duo accused of shooting at FedEx driver who ran over family dog
Authorities in North Carolina arrested a mother and son Monday after police said they retaliated with gunshots when their pet dog was run over.
According to Charlotte-based ABC affiliate WSOC-TV, Catawba County deputies said a FedEx driver accidentally ran over the dog and was accosted by the owners.
Following FedEx policy, the driver pulled out of the driveway and pulled over to inform his supervisor, investigators said. During the call, a woman and her adult son followed him in their pickup truck in attempt to confront him.
Police said the man explained to them that he felt threatened and drove away. That’s when the son, identified as Maxwell Dixon, 23, is accused of firing three shots into the FedEx truck.
Each shot struck the left rear door of the delivery truck.
Dixon, and his 51-year-old mother, Sandy, continued to follow the driver as he pulled into the Highway Patrol Station in attempt to find a police officer, authorities said.
Meanwhile, the driver had called 911 and said he was being chased. Deputies found the driver and the Dixons at that station.

The driver was not hurt.
“It is definitely something that doesn’t occur much in this area,” Capt. Aaron Turk, with the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office, told the station. “Certainly, people would be upset about their dog being run over, but this seems to be taking it a little too far.”
Deputies arrested the pair and charged them with multiple felonies, assault with a deadly weapon as the most serious charge.
It wasn’t clear if the dog died from its injuries.
