Facebook, Instagram go down on Thanksgiving morning
Facebook and Instagram went down for several hours Thursday morning. Service to both appeared to have been restored just before noon.
As of noon, there was no word on the company’s Twitter feed as to what the issue might have been.
According to Down Detector, the social media platforms’ blackout appeared to affect most major cities in the United States, as well as several places worldwide, including London. Facebook’s Messenger also was down.
Reports began to come into Down Detector, a site that monitors service interruptions and outages, about 8:55 a.m., quickly spiking to nearly 10,000 reports of outages.
Some Facebook users reported the site would load only partially, then freeze. Others reported they were able to get on, only to be unable to post anything.
Twitter remained up and running, which is where many users went to vent their frustrations.
But, on Thanksgiving day, some looked at the bright side.
People may have to actually talk to their family members during #Thanksgiving dinner ? #facebookdown https://t.co/vtAIsT800J

That’s depending on whether you really want to talk to your relatives.
