Audience member calls 911 on comedian's joke

Most everyone has a comedian they don’t find to be funny. And somehow almost all of them manage to not call the police.

However, one guy who attended a recent comedy show at Off the Hook Comedy Club in Naples, Fla., wasn’t able to restrain himself.

Yahoo News reports that a day after catching Egyptian-American comic Ahmed Ahmed’s act, an audience member dialed up the Collier County Sheriff’s Office to make authorities aware of a joke that didn’t sit so well with him.

Early in his set, Ahmed Ahmed had asked the audience to if anyone was Middle Eastern.

“A whole bunch of people raised their hands … (and said) ‘I’m from Iraq,’ ‘I’m from Iran,’ ‘I’m from Pakistan,’ ‘I’m from here, I’m from there,’ the caller told the police. “And he said, ‘That’s great. We could organize our own little terrorist organization.’ And I don’t think that was right. It really bothered me. … And I yelled out: ‘Yeah, and the paddywagon’s going to be outside to get all of you.’”

“I just thought it was terrible. My wife and I looked at each other and felt very uncomfortable,” the caller, who preferred to remain anonymous, told the dispatcher. He added that there were about 25 Muslims at the show.

A pair of Collier County deputies did show up at the club, and quickly realized there was no threat.

Ahmed Ahmed tweeted video of the incident, showing the officers and club manager sharing a good laugh about how something like this has never happened to any of them before.

“I think it’s the first time for everyone here honestly,” said one of the responding officers.

“I don’t know if it’s fear, racism, ignorance, or Islamophobia, or whatever you want to call it,” Ahmed Ahmed told WBBH, an NBC affiliate. “It’s unfortunate that somebody was very adamant about making a point to make a 911 call.”
